Liquids
Non-Hazardous Liquids & Semi-Solid Waste
Central Iowa businesses have a local alternative for non-hazardous liquid waste disposal at our Metro Park East Landfill, located in eastern Polk County. Permitted by the Iowa Department of Natural Resources, we can accept non-Resource Conservation and Recovery Act (RCRA) liquids and semi-solid waste.
Appointments Required
Liquids or semi-solids are only accepted during Special Waste acceptance hours and with prior approval and by appointment due to the off-loading process. Saturdays are by special appointment only.
Acceptance Criteria
Like other Special Waste, you must complete the Waste Profile Form prior to bringing liquids and semi-solid waste. Below is a list of some of the common waste streams we accept.
- Industrial liquids
- Municipal waste
- Rinse water
- Latex paint, ink
- Cooling fluids and cutting oils
- Food production waste
- Tank bottoms and sludges
- Drilling waste
Solidification Process & Disposal
The liquid waste is placed over a lined area and mixed with a solidifying material to convert the liquid into an acceptable solid form and is then placed in the landfill. Fly ash is used to solidifying the material.
